Life’s Lessons

Work has been good lately, lots of it and I needed a break, so opened Tumblr and found this article which struck a cord. Have a read and tell me what you think.

A son took his father to a restaurant to enjoy a delicious dinner. His father was quite old and therefore a little weak too. While eating, food occasionally fell on his shirt and pants. The other guests watched the old man with their faces contorted in disgust, but his son remained calm.

After they both finished eating, the son, quietly helped his father and took him to the toilet. Cleaned food scraps from his crumpled face, and attempted to wash food stains from his clothes; graciously combed his grey hair and finally put on his glasses.

As he left the bathroom, a deep silence reigned in the restaurant. The son was ready to foot the bill, but before leaving, a man, also old, got up and asked the old man's son: 'Don't you think you left something here?'

The young man replied: 'No, I did not leave anything.' Then the stranger said to him: 'You left a lesson here for every son, and a hope for every father!”

The whole restaurant was so quiet, you could hear a pin drop.

One of the greatest honours that exists, is being able to take care of those who have taken care of us too. Our parents and all those elders who sacrificed their lives, with all their time, money and effort for us, deserve our utmost respect.

I have bought a new camera, big leap of faith, will I last long enough to master this complicated technology, time will tell but it is a challenge I am up for. Canon EOS 90 D, seems so insignificant but the AF and the ISO are a worry. Will test it out this weekend at Langton Matravers, old museum of memorabilia and the place they invented the microwave oven.

The image that you see may resemble a neglected garden, far from it, the day lilies are close to flowering and this happens once a year. The camellia has flowered and is now hoping to grow another flush of flowers before the end of summer. This garden has so many memories, dreams and hope in it, that at a casual glance, might seem far fetched. Beyond the Day Lilies is a lovely yellow flower that has been allowed to grow and the butterflies love it. On the left is a pink flower, great attraction for the bees. The while flowers in the uncut lawn call the bumblebees to eat. I can go on but my heart is not in it. Susan has called in the Man of Steel, her instructions, clear it all and plant grass. Where will the butterflies and bees go? We are having a complete makeover of this garden of memories, keeping it simple, all grass, no wild flowers, this is the modern world.

But, there is always a but, I think it is a good idea.

Wordsworth; ‘Nature never betrayed the hearts that loved her.’

Toys R Us. Now they went out of business in 2018. They are now to open again, toys are back in fashion. Opening in W H Smiths chain of stores. One of the first to visit the new store in Nottingham was Robert and Lauren, bringing back so many memories and the odd surprise at all the new toys on offer. I am sure they will be getting a loyalty card shortly.

Back to my garden. Saw a blue tit today, no not that kind of tit, it was foraging for tasty morsels. Such a beautiful bird and I do not think they are aware of their brilliance. I would have taken a photograph but Jenson decided to have a wonder around the garden and the blue tit left. In all fairness to Jenson, he would have totally ignored it but the blue tit was not to know.

The garden is really coming to life, loads of colour and the rose is about to flower. Day lilies are taking their time but are in a shady spot. Our garden is a two part ecosystem, one receives sun, when we have it, and the other only late afternoon but the plants cope and we enjoy their efforts.

We thinking of buying a new garden table, the present one is from a by gone era, when we acquired it, it was already about two years old and that was in 2001. I know, before Covid 19, did so much damage to our fragile society. The table in question is a B&Q table, sitting a comfortable 8. Susan does have her doubts that it is wide enough, we do have a few dishes of food on display at our burger nights. Salad, anti pasta, warm rolls and wine, not forgetting the glasses of G&T littering the table, barely touched, then the mains, chicken, burgers, buns, cheese, chips and all the sauces. We do celebrate the end of the week in style. I will ask Michael and Gary to do some research and then we can make an informed decision.

To end and giving someone fair warning, for my birthday I want this hat.

The garden in context is admittedly looking a little sad. Plant some wild flower mixes, you’ll be shocked with some of the flowers that pop out
