New Year 5783

We all think of New Year as the 1st January. But New Year is a mind-boggling number of days throughout the year. In the UK we use the Gregorian calendar, which started in 1752. This has New Year’s day as the 1st January. Then we have our birthday, which is New Year's day for our year. In my business, we start our New Year on the 1st March.

Gets even better, Chinese New Year begins on 22nd January and ends on February 1st. This also has a name, this year it is the year of the Rabbit. Islamic New Year is the 18th July. The Jews celebrate New Year on the 25th September and their calendar shows 25th September 5783, which has been going a while. There are about 40 different calendars being used at the moment, mostly religious but they all have their New Year starting on a different date in our Gregorian calendar. It makes you think a little as to who is right.

Our Gregorian calendar has three different number of days for the months, 28, 30 or 31. Exclude the leap years but an easy way to know how many days are in a month is this simple drawing of the knuckles on your hand.

Susan had a cold for a few days and even stayed home for a day. Med-Lemon has been consumed way beyond the manufacturer's recommendations but like a good red wine, when in doubt have another glass or Med- lemon in this case. On Saturday we decided to go for a swim, we have been avoiding that for a few days as the weather was grim. Wind blowing, the temperature was around 5 C but we felt amazing. For Susan it was as David put it, if it does not kill you, it will make you feel better.

Now, just to make it clear, I am fine and do not have a cold but Susan has asked me on numerous occasions if I am well. I have confirmed my wellness but did notice a little disappointment on her face. Nothing like sharing tough times but a cold if not one of those occasions. I am happy to report that Susan is now well and back to her old charming, bright, considerate self.

I am starting a new end to my blog, Where are We?

Just a teaser with some clues and photos and I will reveal where we were in the next blog. So let’s get started.

Where are We?

Clue.

This upmarket town has a thriving shopping district, with independent fashion boutiques, general stores, cafes, and pubs and has a Victorian-covered arcade. It’s also popular for quiet strolls, thanks to its chines – dry, wooded gorges that run to the sandy beach, passing clifftop green spaces. Winston Churchill and Robert Louis Stephenson both frequented this market town.
